We have had a very challenging year coping with the lockdowns and the impact of the pandemic. In 2019 we had our last rehearsal before the first lockdown and even though we all wanted to meet again we could not. Despite our valiant efforts to write Risk Assessments and Action Plans, we were not able to use the Zone for rehearsals until December 2020, and even then, socially distanced and under strict Covid guidelines.
Our first concert was in December 2020 in the Open air in Downderry singing our Christmas songs, and despite all the wind and rain there was truly a festive spirit!
Lockdown 3 came in January 2021 and yet again we were frustrated by not being able to meet to sing together.
By June of 2020, the choir had unanimously decided to move from the Zone to the Village hall to practise and we were able to relaunch on June 16th in Penny’s garden singing outdoors! For several weeks we met outside enjoying the choir being together but also the challenge of the sea breezes!
By the middle of July we met for the first time in the village hall …and now preparing for our first concert since Lockdown – RNLI concert in Looe.
Throughout these months, the committee continued to meet discussing and deciding different ways to meet, and solving problems along the way. It has been a tough time but we are now a stronger larger choir with many potential concerts planned for the next few months.
