Musical Director: Trish Rogan

BA (Hons), ACMA, CGMA

Trish was brought up in the North West of England to a musical family; her father was a teacher and professional singer with the BBC Northern Singers. All of her siblings play various musical instruments and music was a constant presence in the Rogan household!

Starting with piano lessons, Trish then went on to sing in her father’s church choir from the age of 9. She studied singing with Marie Taylor in Wigan from the age of 16 until going to Nottingham in1979 to study Music & Drama. While there, she studied singing with Gabrielle Lister. Graduating with honours, Trish moved to London in 1982.

Once in London, Trish auditioned for the Philharmonia Chorus, was accepted and placed in the Semi Chorus. Her first concert with them was singing Elgar’s Dream Of Gerontius at the Royal Festival Hall!

Following 3 years or so of concerts with the Phiharmonia, both in the UK and Europe, Trish became a member of a soul band and went on the road as a professional singer. During this time, Trish performed in the UK, Eire, France Belgium, Italy & Denmark; this included live performances as well as Radio & TV with two albums being recorded on the way!

This gypsy life finished around 1992 when, in order to eat and pay bills, Trish started studying as a Chartered Management Accountant, qualifying in 1997. She went on to work in the City of London and the West End in various financial positions.

All through this time of working in Finance, Trish was involved in various musical groups and bands. This included running a choir of fellow workers formed to perform a Christmas concert to raise funds for Great Ormond Street in 2008.

In 2017, Trish moved to Downderry from London together with her husband Dave, a drummer! Since then they have both become actively involved with other musicians in the area. In addition to being the Musical Director of Whitsand Harmony, Trish sings in a local band, Rocksea.

Trish is pleased to now be involved in the on going development of the choir:

“I consider it an honour to have been asked to be MD for Whitsand Harmony. Having sung with them as a Soprano over the last 3 years, I know how much the members love singing. Their enthusiasm and commitment (especially in the winter months!) is marvellous! I look forward to making music with them all going forward….”
